Today marks a major milestone for Crosslake Fibre’s CrossChannel Fibre project: the subsea cable has been landed in Brighton, UK and has officially started its underwater journey toward France. Using the vessel Telecom Intrepid, the 192-fibre unrepeatered cable was lowered into place at Brighton before making its way across the English Channel to be landed at Veules-les-Roses, Normandy.
In the UK, the cable will be buried approximately 2 metres underground shore-side and integrated into Crosslake’s terrestrial route into Slough. On the French side, it will connect to major interconnection facilities in Paris via Equinix & Interxion. Crosslake expects the French landing in early October and anticipates the system will be carrying traffic by the end of October, with services commencing officially December 1.
This marks the first new subsea cable across the English Channel in over two decades, bringing a modern, high-capacity, low latency route between London and Paris.
